Getting to Mvuu

International flight into Zambia (Lusaka, Livingstone or Mfuwe) and a charter flight (Proflight) who offer scheduled and charter flights to Royal Air Strip.


Royal is a tar air strip which is used by the surrounding lodges and is only a 30 min scenic transfer game drive through the Chiawa Game Management area to the lodge.

From Lusaka we can arrange a road transfer to Mvuu Lodge, please enquire for costs and more details. Alternatively you can hire a vehicle and explore the road on your own. From Lusaka it is a 2 hour drive to Chirundu (a border town on the Zambezi River) and another 2 hours to Mvuu on a dirt road . Only a high clearance vehicle and 4x4’s are suitable for this road.

For the more adventurous there is the Leopard Hills road from Lusaka to Mvuu Lodge. This road is definitely for 4x4 only and if possible its best to travel in convoy. It is a spectacular and breathtaking road through the Zambezi Escarpment down to the Lower Zambezi Valley. Please be sure to notify the Lodge if you intend on using this road in case of emergencies.

If you prefer a more relaxed transfer we can meet you at Gwabi where you can leave your vehicle and relax on our boat all the way to the lodge. This scenic transfer takes about 1h 15min. Please enquire for costs and other details.

With a charter flight it takes about ½ hour from Lusaka to Royal air strip. By car it takes about 2 hours to the border town of Chirundu (130 km) and another 2 ½ hours to Mvuu.

With a charter flight it takes about 2 hours from Livingstone to Royal air strip. By car it takes about 7 hours to Chirundu (496 km) plus another 2 ½ hrs to Mvuu
